Welcome again to kpop_fic! It's so so exciting to see so many different people joining in this community and sharing fics!

One idea arundels and I also had for this community was to have some regular discussion posts so that people have a chance to chat. So, here is our first Weekly Fic Discussion post!

This post can be used for any kind of fic discussion you want, but will also have a few prompt questions each week. We'll try to target both writers and readers with the prompt questions. You can reply to all of them, one of them, or none of them if you have something else you want to talk about!

Feel free to post WIP snippets, ask others' opinion on characterization, share a clip that has broken your brain, etc.!

This week's prompt questions:

• How did you get into reading/writing K-pop RPF?


• What is your platonic ideal of a K-pop fic (e.g. the elements you usually gravitate towards)?

Got into reading and writing Kpop fic as an extension of being in the Visual Kei RPF fandom (thanks for that, Gackt, you ass) and the streams just crossed themselves. XD

Lately I've been finding my reading happy space mostly in Omegaverse, but even outside that I gravitate strongly towards healthy polyamory and exploring how that can mean different things for different members. I can go both idolverse or AU, but if we're going AU, then give me some level of magic/powers please.

The first time I ever even heard about Visual Kei was because of Kpop (trying to understand what was going on at SM circa 2005 lol), so I think it's so fun that you got into Kpop via Visual Kei!

The perils of being a fandom old - I remember what a wild time it was when various VK bandmen confessed to being into Kpop and the elitist fans losing their minds because how dare their precious indies rock gods be into something so manufactured and bubblegum! Which is extra telling given that visual kei has always been about a manufactured IMAGE (which is how I got sucked down the RPF rabbit hole in the first place), but ... ain't no elitist like an indie rock elitist? XD

... now I'm wondering if I should go back and try finding my old Taebin/Seven fic. Assuming I *can* find any of my old old fics..... XD

unfortunately, that was three or four computers ago, so I'm not exactly holding out much hope, especially when one of them was basically stolen from me and I never did get all those files back. e_e I found one drabble on LJ that I'm not terribly happy with anymore, but that's been it. Sigh. It was one of my first Kpop pairings, so I know once upon a time I had more, but apparently unpublished? Or otherwise lost in the depths of LJ of Yore. :p

AO3 is down still so I can't actually link them, however, if you go to the omega x tag there should be some canon omegaverse by sinchun, where omega x are being marketed as omegas but in reality, only one of them is. So they have to learn to be omegas on screen, which was a very fascinating exercise in world building for me!

Yes to omegaverse, polyamory, and magic!!!!

Part of what got me into K-pop back in the 2010s is that I was into anime and JRPGs (including Gackt lol, like why was he just straight up a FFVII character) enough to get a bit into J-pop, and there was a lot of crossover between J-pop and K-pop fans.

And yes, polyamory is really fun explore with idol groups!

so many fun memories of watch Gackt wind up the fandom and then sit back and laugh. That man was such a menace with his bullshit, but I kinda sided with him - watching fans take even his wildest bullshit seriously was kinda hilarious.

Some groups feel like a stretch to make into a polycule and other groups make it so easy, even knowing good and well it's not real, I can't stop seeing it. XD Sprinkle on some omegaverse pack dynamics and a rainy day and I'm good. :3
